Small amounts can be put in our Block Bins! Of course you do have to join the free program to take advantage of that. For more about our Block Bins program, Click Here.
Shredded junk mail, bills, printer paper, unbleached coffee filters, and plain cardboard are all perfect. Modern soy-based inks are non-toxic and safe. However, do not include plastic-coated items, wax paper, glossy magazine pages, or thermal paper receipts (which contain BPA). And you should have already been sure to remove any plastic shipping tape or staples before shredding.
And our bins are relatively small, so boxes and boxes of shredding are not acceptable. You would need to wait for one of our two annual shred events – the first is always in April during Green Week and the second is planned around National Recycling Day in November.
Otherwise you would need to drop your off at a specialized facility. Secure shredding companies collect shredded paper in bulk, compact it into massive blocks, and send it directly to paper mills.
Also, you can watch for community shred events. When we receive announcements for nearby shred events, we do post them in our Weekly Newsletter.
