We’ve also noticed motor vehicles and fire pits, which are supposedly illegal. We’ve contacted the Alderwoman’s office about this and are awaiting a response.
While we again cross our fingers for action by our local authorities, we want to make sure everyone is aware and stays safe if and when you use the space. Last year the encampments got out of control with fires and unsanitary conditions, and even campers trespassing, assaulting our staff and residents, damaging a wall and dumpster diving right behind Park Tower. If you notice any illegal activity or safety concerns or need immediate park-related assistance, you may contact Chicago Park District Security at 312-747-2193, which oversees security in park and lakefront areas. Any dangerous behavior or conditions should always be reported to 911.
But, it is likely a political solution is needed for a more permanent resolution to this issue. When residents start contacting the Alderwoman in large numbers, we typically see a response.
