It has been reported some ComEd customers may be receiving a troubling piece of mail, with the Return Address to: “CLEAN CHOICE ENERGY PROCESSING CENTER”. It has a somewhat official looking labeling and presentation, and they are asking you to fill out, sign and return. Supposedly this will allow you to purchase energy from only renewable sources, and shares very few of the actual terms and conditions to do so. To get the bigger picture,
The heading on this one looks like this:
Their website seems legitimate but they do not have a Better Business Bureau Rating, and we could not find much else about them online. However, usually when you get unsolicited invitations like this, they are worth ignoring. This one is no exception, in our opinion. The price they are quoting could double (or more) what you pay for electricity if you are getting your power directly from ComEd. Your money may very well go to fund and support wind and solar energy projects. But even those facts are only supported by the information on their website, as far as we can ascertain.
It is potentially a scam as it is presented, and at the very least is dangerously misleading. It could be very expensive for anyone that fills this out and returns it.
As with anything, buyer be aware and beware. Always do some research before making any decision like this.
