We’ve had several close calls on the entrance ramp, and in each case it is because a driver became impatient and ran the red or yellow light.
In one case, a driver was waiting at the stop sign in the garage, behind someone else and although the light was clearly red, started screaming at the other driver out their window, passed them and exited right on past the red light. Although no car was coming, that very easily might not have been the case since the light was green in the driveway. We realize that sometimes you may be waiting and no one will come – you will just need to be patient.
Sadly, we do have to act because of these close calls, for everyone’s protection. The safety of our parkers is paramount, especially in a situation such as this. Waiting 30 seconds is nothing compared to avoiding a collision. So we will be issuing Notices Of Violation for parkers who run the signals and forwarding the matter for review by the Association’s Rules Commission and Board for enforcement consideration which may result in fines and/or parking privleges being revoked.
Also, when you are waiting at a light behind another vehicle, please don’t start screaming obscenities out your window at them. Please be civil, patient and understanding. Remaining amicable and avoiding road rage in the garage will help maintain a safer and more pleasant experience for everyone. This situation is a terrible inconvenience, but screaming at other drivers is just bad behavior and certainly doesn’t make anything better for anyone.
As to the repairs, our vendor has reported that parts are expected in by May 5th. Once they’ve arrived and they are able to confirm they have everything in hand, the vendor will be able to schedule the repair work – likely within a week of that time.
We appreciate all our parkers cooperation during this difficult experience.
Please Use Extreme Caution Coming And Going AND Obey The Traffic Signals!
And, YELLOW Means STOP Too!
The Garage EXIT door was seriously damaged this week when a driver accelerated instead of braking, and crashed into it. It is expected to remain inoperable due to this condition for 4 to 5 weeks. There are parts unique to the garage door since it is a custom size. Those need to be manufactured, and the order was placed.
In the meantime the ENTRANCE door will be used for both ingress and egress. Only the one lane will be available up and down the ramp, so please stay alert and cautious while driving. Drive slowly and with extra care to ensure everyone’s safety as they navigate through this temporary setup.
The traffic lights have been installed to help traffic flow better. If you see RED OR YELLOW Lights, you should be stopped. That’s right, for this particular situation yellow means stop because there is only one lane. When it is yellow outside, it is yellow inside as well, and we can’t have vehicles coming in and out with only one lane available. Yellow just gives you an indication that the transition is coming.
So if you see either of these, you should be stopped or in the process of stopping:
You should only proceed to the ramp to enter or exit, if the light is GREEN. Like this:
These lights do not operate on a sensor. That type of feature was unavailable to us. They instead use a timer, so there will be times you are stopped, and no cars may come from the other direction. We realize that can be frustrating, but safety is our priority.
If you are expecting guests, please give them a heads-up about this situation to ensure they are aware when entering and exiting the garage.
This is obviously an inconvenience for everyone, but if drivers use caution and follow these guidelines, we can get everyone in and out of the garage safely while we await the repair.
We will provide any updates on the repair as we receive them, so check back with this post if you want to know the latest.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
