Residents and Owners of 5445, 5455 and Park Tower, as well as the Manager of 5445 reported this to us. Pictures and even a video of the event were shared and have been circulating on social media, along with all sorts of gossip and speculation.
The manager of 5445 released the following letter to residents regarding the event, which we believe is appropriate to share with our community:
“Good morning,
I wanted to provide some information about an incident that occurred in front of the building this morning.
Clarence Davids, the Association’s landscaper, had two maintenance workers onsite this morning working in the parkway along Sheridan Road.
At approximately 8:45 am, three ICE agents in a black Jeep Wagoneer pulled up in front of the driveway, spoke briefly with the maintenance workers, placed one of them in handcuffs, and drove off with him in the car. I know that this was witnessed by several residents of the building, some of whom I have spoken to.
Management is working directly with Clarence Davids, who have made two requests that I am passing along to you. If you have footage of the incident, please send it to me so that I can share it with Clarence Davids. They have also asked that you please do not post photos or videos of the incident which show the person arrested to avoid embarrassing him.
Management has been assured by Clarence Davids that they are working to secure this mans release, as he is a legal resident, with authorization to work in this country, and we are cooperating to the fullest extent to assist.
I understand that many of you have questions, and strong opinions on the ICE action in Chicago, immigration, and the many other associated topics. I want to be transparent, but information is extremely limited at this time, I do not have answers to the questions you may have. We are all absolutely entitled to our opinions on current events, but I do ask that this incident be treated as something that happened to someone who works here, and not as a news item. Finally, I ask everyone to respect that he is a person who does not need to be put online at what I am sure is a very difficult time for him and his family.
Sincerely,
Scott Graf, CMCA
Property Manager”
For our part, at Park Tower, while we have little direct control over such situations, we have distributed and reviewed procedures for how to appropriately interact with federal agents or any authorities who come on site or enter the building.
We do appreciate the calls and messages of concern we’ve received. The manager at 5445 put it very well – many of us have strong feelings and opinions about current events, but we hope everyone understands there is little the Association can do or say about this. However, anytime, you’re welcome to share any questions or concerns at parktowercondo-mgmt@habitat.com.
