(The Association Of Sheridan Road Condo And Co-op Owners – https://ascosheridanroad.org/asco/)
Dear Managers,
I have emailed/spoken with Nicole, Chief of Staff and Angel from Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppeworth about the many problems of July 4, the use of illegal fireworks at our Sheridan parks ( Berger Park, Park 559, George Lane, Osterman Beach, behind 5555-5415). As we all know the illegal fireworks often land on a balcony, go until early morning and concern is closeness to people and buildings. Realizing the July 4 holiday typically receives some of the highest calls for service that has to be prioritized, then dispatched, I still have done my yearly request for 20/24th District presence especially George Lane and Osterman Beach.
I received this from Angel from Alderwoman/s staff, “there will be patrols this weekend and the lakefront is patrolled after 11pm and even a bit before to ensure the closure of Parks. Patrols will be roaming. The Chicago Police Department is an essential service and by law is mandated to be available at all times for emergency services, therefore, 20th District will be open to field phone calls. If no one answers that phone 911, call the District Number: 312 742-8714 who can take your call or route you to their message system. or call Police District 20 312- 742- 8770.” I also received mail from Tony Fitzgerald, Chicago Park Supervisor of our area that he will be forwarding information to their security team. All parks close11pm- 6am.
Please let your staff and/or residents know to report any unsafe conditions ( illegal fireworks, fireworks close to people harming personal property example balcony, noise extending to early morning, etc) to 911and to the telephone numbers in the paragraph above. And if people are in the parks past 11pm, call 911 as well as ask to have the Chicago Park District security team contacted also. People may have to make multiple calls.
We are hoping that this year will be a safe, fun holiday for all.
Best,
Sandy Chaet
