Management at 5455 Edgewater Plaza, on behalf of their Board, reached out to formally request limited access our Party Room. An untimely challenge with one of their boilers is reducing the heating capacity of their HVAC system. This is reducing the heating capability of their in unit heating convectors, during the worst weather possible. So they’ve requested access as short-term warming option for residents that may get cold during this period of extremely cold weather.
They are hopeful the problem will be resolved within the next 24 hours but are preparing for the worst. Even after the repair is made, it will take a great deal of time to get their system up to full capacity. They are aiming, absent any surprises, for their system to be fully operational by Sunday evening, January 25th.
They’ve advised that approximately 30 to 40 residents total, may need an alternative to remaining in their unit. The Greek Orthodox Church has agreed to allow daytime use of their community room from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday. To assist, we’ve extended our welcome for overnight visitors to use our Party Room, being what we believe is the neighborly thing to do. The Management and Board at 5445 has offered their spaces as well. So there are options, particularly if more folks end up needing an alternative.
At this time, any anticipated use would be limited to the period beginning Friday evening, January 23rd, through Sunday evening, January 25th, and only if necessary. Use would primarily occur from sundown (approximately 5:00 p.m.) through late-night hours and would be strictly a warming option only. We would not anticipate their residents sleeping in the space, though given the timing I have to admit I would not be able to remain awake all night. We’ve coordinated with our staff and security to provide accommodation while still keeping the Tower secure.
The manager at 5455, Anthony Rodriguez said, “I fully understand this is a significant request….Should either of your associations ever face a similar situation, please know that 5455 Edgewater Plaza would gladly extend the same neighborly support to the extent we are able.”
So in the evening and overnight this weekend, if you are out and about, or hitting the Health Club and see some unfamiliar faces, feel free to say hi and extend a welcome. These are neighbors and we are just trying to help during a challenging time.
