And Ceiling Replacement In Service Elevator 5
Work to replace the ceiling in Car 5 (which serves all floors and garage levels), will be done on Monday September 8th. This will be followed by the floor replacement in the passenger elevators 1 through 4, beginning Tuesday September 9th. While work is being done in each individual elevator, and while the flooring is setting, they will be out of service.
The team will again proceed in number order…1, 2, 3 and 4. It is expected to take each elevator 1 to 2 days of work, and we will know more what to expect after Car 1 is finished. When the flooring is properly set and most importantly ready to walk on, it will be returned to service and they will begin work in the next car. We can’t time it out with any reasonable precision, so please expect that over the course of the next two weeks, each cab will be out of service for roughly two days as they complete the flooring replacements.
We are excited to coordinate this improvement, and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while it is being completed.
OTIS Elevator reported they have about 1 day of work left. They did start a day later than expected, so that still puts the timing at about 5 days per cab. We are waiting for final completion before we set expectations for the remaining elevators.

Last fall the PTCA Board of Directors approved the budgeted plans recommended by the Home Improvement Commission, to remodel the elevator interiors. This includes the floors, walls and ceilings. Stone flooring and upper wall panels will be installed, along with a metal mesh bottom panels, new railings and a stainless ceiling with new LED light fixtures.
To accommodate the work, the elevators will need to be taken out of service, one at a time. The team at OTIS who is coordinating this effort with Globe Architectural, estimates that the process will take about 5 days per elevator. The goal is to start on a Monday and have that elevator back up and running by the following weekend. So the expected outages will be as follows:
Cab 1 (serving the Lobby to 23 Flr) – Monday August 11th – Friday August 15th
Cab 2 (serving the Lobby to 23 Flr) – Monday August 18th – Friday August 22nd
Cab 3 (serving the Lobby, 2nd Flr and Floors 23 to 55) – Monday August 25th – Friday August 29th
Cab 4 (serving the Lobby, 2nd Flr and Floors 23 to 55) – Tuesday Sept. 2nd – Friday Sept. 5th
ALSO, a stainless steel ceiling and LED fixtures will be installed in Service Elevator 5, which serves all Floors, including 1P and 2P:
Cab 5 (serving all floors, 1p and 2p) – Monday Sept. 8th – Wednesday Sept. 10th
Work is expected to be done between 6am and 2pm each day.
THIS SCHEDULING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE – and we will put out updates as work progresses. Our OTIS rep warned that when the old finishes are being taken out, they may run into unknown conditions, and frankly they won’t know the timing with certainty until cab 1 is completed.
