Property tax bills are divided into two annual installments. The First Installment, which is 55 percent of the previous year’s total tax, is typically due March 1st each year. The Second Installment is due 30 days after they are posted and mailed.

There is no fee if you pay from your bank account. The Treasurer’s Office accepts partial payments but the Second Installment taxes must be paid by the due date to avoid a late charge of .75 percent per month, as mandated by Illinois law.

We’ve been told everyone can expect an increase, despite valuations being lowered around 2% as a result of the most recent tax appeal. The appeal only lowers the “assessed valuation”, which is just one factor determining the amount owed. Residential property owners share of the tax base increased (apparently) so everyone can expect to owe more year over year. It will be less than it otherwise would have been thanks to the appeal.
