We are told it may take a month or longer for it to be put back in service.
First, the process needed for the repair is rather complicated and requires a city permit. Work to secure the permit is underway but may take a couple weeks. The parts needed are on order and scheduled to arrive by the last week of December. So, assuming the parts and permit arrive as expected, OTIS tentatively scheduled the actual repair to take place on December 29th. This time of year, both these variables themselves can be a challenge, so that’s the first hurdle.
The actual repair itself should be completed within a day. However, before we can release the elevator for service, a City Inspector needs to come and observe the completed repair and testing of the elevator. This will have to be scheduled once OTIS completes repair, but could take an additional 2 or 3 weeks of waiting. Given the time of year, that too could be a challenge.
If all goes well and the stars align just right, OTIS believes we may return the elevator to service by Friday January 16th.
Elevators are complicated machines. Not everything that can go wrong over the years will be a simple fix. This is an example of one of the more complicated situations that can arise.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we wait for this elevator repair to be completed, and for the City to inspect and give us their blessing to return it to service.
