Between our mail carriers, UPS, FedEx and Amazon, our waste and recycling pickups and work being coordinated by the Park Tower team, as well as Unit Owner construction and remodeling, deliveries, workers and contractors have been keeping the driveway and dock buzzing sometimes every single day.
Big vehicles and trailers, contractor vans, utility vehicles, cars of all shapes and sizes…they are almost always coming and going. Occasionally there may even be a fire truck, police cruiser or ambulance!
We want everyone to have reasonable access to make deliveries and conduct any bulk loading and unloading when it is needed. However, despite our best efforts, it can be a perfect storm of traffic jams going both ways at times.
As you can imagine, on days when we have all this activity and then a moving truck shows up, there can be a bit of unintended chaos. So we wanted to remind everyone of the basics for parking in the back, whether for loading and unloading, moves, construction or otherwise. There will be chaos at times, but we would like to encourage as much well managed chaos as possible.
As the PTCA rules handbook state, consistent with the posted signage, “As space permits, 30-minute parking is allowed in the dock area behind the building for individuals actively loading or unloading materials. You must sign in on the clipboard next to the security office.” And as some folks have learned the hard way, “Vehicles in violation of these regulations will be towed at the expense of the parker.” The only exception is for properly scheduled moves and elevator reservations. (For more about scheduling moves and reserving use of the service elevators, Click Here.)
It is ULTRA important to sign in on the clipboard, because if your parked anywhere on the dock or in the driveway for longer than 30 minutes, if we know who you are, we will try to reach you before our team calls for a tow. Completely fill out the details so we can identify you, the vehicle and a number to contact you at.
If you or someone parking back there on your behalf needs longer than 30 minutes, you can contact the office for a “Dock Parking Pass“. These are $30 and can be charged to a Unit Owner’s account with their approval, and get placed on the dashboard so our security team knows not to tow. They allow for up to 8 hours of parking. This DOES NOT mean the parker gets to use the spots directly along the dock and in front of the doors. Those spots are strictly intended for active loading and unloading, with a limit of 30 minutes. We have lots of business coming and going as we mentioned, so you need to plan to get in and get out so the next parker can do the same. You can however park along the fence line using the the Dock Parking Pass.
The exception is for moves or any other appropriately scheduled elevator reservation events. Owners and residents can reserve the service elevator for move ins and move outs, and sometimes Owners doing remodeling need to reserve the elevator for their contractor to come and or go with construction materials, appliances and such. The moving truck or other necessary vehicles get 4 hours of parking with those reservations.
If you are not parked back there appropriately – whether you are not signed in on the clipboard, or exceed 30 minutes for loading and unloading, or you don’t have the 8 hour parking pass, or if you have not scheduled the service elevator for use, then your vehicle will likely be towed. Repeat offenders may receive a Notice of Violation and be subject to a fine. But more importantly, you could be contributing to unnecessary chaos.
If all parkers try to keep these guidelines in mind, and follow them closely, we will be able to get everyone’s business coordinated with greater ease.
Don’t hesitate to contact our team with questions anytime.
